You never really notice how much you use your phone, until you have to do an assignment that requires you to analyze your mobile habits. I use my phone every single day for 365 days and not once have I ever noticed that I have a lot of photography applications. I have a total of 58 apps downloaded and half of it is related to photography or post-editing. Now you probably are not wondering which type of apps are my favourite, because obviously you would assume either a photography or editing app. Well guess what, you are absolutely right. My favourite apps include Instagram, UNUM, VSCO, Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop.
What is my life like with my Google Pixel 2?
Believe it or not, I use these applications on a regular day basis but at different times through out the day. One micro-moment that I have on a regular day basis is my "want to browse". Normally this occurs when I am on the training heading to work or school, which usually requires me to sit on the Go-Train and wait until I arrive at my destination. My urge to browse is mainly to prevent myself from being bored on the train as I wait. During this time, I usually browse through my Instagram app through my Google Pixel Phone. I am never looking for anything specific but browsing peoples post and liking them. This makes me feel like I am being productive because it helps speed up time, even though the train is not moving any faster than usual. Another micro-moment is usually when I have some free time on my hands, like when I am on a lunch break. I will take advantage of the time and have the "want to do", such as editing. This makes me feel relaxed because as a photographer, I find it peaceful and de-stressing when I am working on something that I truly enjoy. Usually during these times, I am productive with my editing and will share my work during the end of my lunch break. In some cases, I usually experience some frustration because things are looking the way I want them too. For example, the outcome of an photo edit is not exactly what I envisioned. However, the beauty of using your phone is that it is quick to adjust and allows you to continue your process later on if you need the time.
Now from a marketer's perspective
Based on my own user behavior, there are a few important key elements to analyze. The first includes marketing ads in the morning because people tend to commute to work and use their phones to browse. This would a good time period to post or share promotional ads to your targeted audience. It is also important to consider other times in the day that individuals may be commuting and to promote content during those hours of the day. Moreover, a person's favorite apps may be relative to one another and in my case, it relates to photography. Therefore, I would cross-promote on multiple platforms to ensure you reach your targeted audience.
Now I am not saying that all individuals are the same, but sometimes you need to analyze your own situation to better understand other people. Comparing your mobile day with other userscan show similarities and differences, which can hopefully lead to some day-to-day mobile trends.
